Curiosity didn’t kill the rover

I (obviously) wanted to post something on the momentously awesome landing of the Curiosity rover on Mars, but what to choose? As the stories, and images, poured in, they got better almost by the hour.

So… let me point you to sources instead. I’m sure all the awesomeness appeared on Bad Astronomy at some point, and NASA’s page has been fabulous. For accounts of the landing, I’ll send you to these two stories at Ars.

It was tremendously fun watching the live feed from the NASA operations center. When confirmation rolled in about half an hour after midnight, the celebratory scene was stirring. That’s what it feels like to launch a $2.5 billion arrow at another planet and gently hit a bulls-eye.

Now the discoveries begin.
