University of Wisconsin-Madison:  Meteorology researchers from downtown Madison have found a connection between- of all things- huge thunderstorms over Indonesia and flooding over Tennessee.  The thunderstorms push the subtropical jet stream northward, where it connects up with the polar jet stream.  This makes a “superjet”, which is really strong and can make all sorts of intense weather in the midwest, including those tornadoes in Alabama last spring.  If all this is true, we could have a very powerful new tool to predict extreme and dangerous weather events.
